Intrinsic Motivation

​Occasionally, students will portray reduced motivation during fieldwork. This may be the result of many factors, perhaps the student is not passionate about this setting, perhaps they have outside factors impacting their motivation, or maybe there is a separate reason. Students who demonstrate a lack of motivation can be challenging to teach as it can negatively impact learning and be perceived as unprofessional. This tool below was developed to promote student reflections, foster conversations with fieldwork educators, and further develop rapport between the fieldwork educator and student.

Directions: There are many ways you can use this tool. Weekly, have your student pick a reflection question and:

  • Debrief in-person during weekly reviews

  • Have the student email their response (being sure to adhere to HIPPA guidelines and rules)
